| worthy viewing The Crow (1994) Brandon Lee When someone dies, the Crow carries their soul from the land of the living to the land of the dead. Sometimes, just sometimes, the Crow can bring their soul back to put the wrong things right. Hands down my favourite film of all time. Farenheit 911 (2004) Fight Club (1999) Edward Norton, Brad Pitt A look at how mankind's unrelenting onslaught of consumerism and capitalism has destroyed not only our bodies but our minds. An excellent movie, based on an even-better book. Ghost World (2000) Thora Birch, Scarlet Johansson, Steve Buscemi The story of a disconnected, rebellious girl growing up in suburban America. Amazing script, beautifully acted and full of dark comedy. Hedwig and the Angry Inch Run Lola Run (German) Traffic (2000) Michael Douglas, Benicio Del Toro Based on the BBC miniseries Traffik, this film tells of the drug war between Mexican cartels and the US government. Benicio del Toro gives an unbelievable performance as a Mexican police officer torn between two worlds. When I Turned Nine (Korean) The Blair Witch Project (1999) This movie changed the entire horror genre. Three film students go missing in the woods while filming a documentary on the legend of a witch. Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain (2001, French) Audrey Tautou A young girl living in Paris discovers a hidden treasure in her apartment. It opens a new world for her, doing good deeds for others anonymously. Some of the most amazing camera-work I've ever seen combined with great digital lighting effects make the story come to life. Twelve Monkeys (1995) Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis In the near future a great viral pague has killed off most of mankind, returning the world to the animals. A prisoner, used a test subject in time travel, is sent back to stop the virus from spreading. Brad Pitt gives an amazing performance as a mental patient, leading a band of animal rights activists, the Army of the Twelve Monkeys. Great plot twists and the director's careful use of foreshadowing make this movie a classic. Cube (1997) Cube 2: Hypercube (2002) A group of seemingly unrelated strangers wake up in a cube-shaped room. Each wall of the room has a door that leads to another seemingly identical room. They work together, solving riddles and mathematical equations and staving off insanity to escape. Cube 2 features a tessaract or four-dimensional cube prison and delves into time travel and parallel universes. Legends of the Fall Kalifornia (1993) Brad Pitt, Juliette Lewis, David Duchovny The Matrix (1999) The Matrix 2: Reloaded (2003) The Matrix 3: Revolutions (2003) In the future, artificially intelligent robots, living in the ark of humanity in Mesopotamia, strive to create their own country and are subsequently attacked by humans who blacken the skies in a nuclear winter, hoping to stop the robots by cutting off their power source, the sun. The robots in turn, look to the natural electricity created by humans as a new power source and enslave mankind in an artificial computer-controlled universe,the matrix, growing humans in immense fields. Some of these humans escape the matrix and work to free mankind from it's captors. Incredible storyline and some of the most incredible special-effects I've ever seen. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back After being arrested for selling pot, Jay and Silent Bob learn of plans to create a movie based on Bluntman and Chronic, the comic characters based on their lives. They travel from their New Jersey QuickMart to Hollywood to stop production of the film. Hilarious cameos, classic Kevin Smith humor...I laughed my ass off. Dogma Two angels that have fallen from grace find a loophole in god's plan that will give them a way back through the pearly gates. If they do, though, it wil prove god fallible and the universe will cease to exist. Chasing Amy Holden Macneil (Ben Affleck) falls in love with a girl that he can never have, a lesbian with a raunchy past. He writes a comic book...Chasing Amy, in which he describes his pursuits of the unattainable. Brilliant! Mallrats Clerks Unbreakable The story of a man who discovers that he is invincible, by surviving unscathed from a dangerous train-wreck. The film follows the discoveries of his new powers and strength as a real-world superhero. First in a three part series written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The Sixth Sense A psychologist whose patient is a young boy that "sees dead people." An amazing film, with an unbelievable plot twist. Pulp Fiction Two gangster assasins and the tangled web that weaves around their lives when one realizes that he has been touched by god. American Psycho Partrick Bateman (played by Christian Bale in a role he was born for) is a young New York socialite and metrosexual in the mid-80's Wall Street world of cocaine and nightclubs. All he wants to do is fit in, instead this awakens in him a deeper and more sinister desire. The story is meant to be a parody commenting on men's role in the world. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The original gore and screamfest. The true story of a crazy red-neck and how he terrorizes a group of college students who wander off the beaten path on a road trip. Scary because it was true. Dazed and Confused A classic. The story of teenage life in the 70's. Contact What would happen if we were contacted by life from another galaxy? This is explored in the film when a scientist makes contact. Very well executed and written. The story unfolds exactly as it would when this finally does happen. Boogie Nights A humorous look at the hidden underworld of the porn industry in the late 70's. It follows the life of a young porn star and his trip from rags to riches and back again. Gridlock'd Two young hustlers and their beautiful lounge-singing roommate bite off more than they can chew when they accidentally get involved with the wrong people. Tim Roth and Tupac Shakur both do an incredible job. Four Rooms Four short films, each directed by a different person, focusing on one of four rooms in a hotel. Bizzare stories, great acting, and Tim Roth, as the bell-boy, make this a classic. Resevoir Dogs A modern gangster film, about a group of men, dressed in black suits that realize a rat is in their midst when the police foil a diamond heist. The story follows the search for the rat and ends up with most of the characters turning on each other. Kill Bill Volume 1 A woman, once member of a group of deadly assasins, overcomes paralysis and seeks revenge on her former friends after they botch and assasination attept on her. Great acting and a wicked storyline told in classic Kung Fu movie style. First in a two part series. Scarface Hackers This film came out during the beginning of the Internet Revolution. It tells of a high-school student who at age 11 orchestrated the largest simultaneous computer crash in histroy. His new friends work together to bring down a corporate criminal, stealing millions of dollars, all from the comfort of home. Taxi Driver Interview With the Vampire The story of Louis, a young New Orlean vampire in the 18th century and his adventures with his maker, Lestat, and their child, Claudia, when they realize that they are not alone in the world. Schindler's List A truly epic film, about a rich German man in Nazi Germany, who uses his fortune to save persecuted Jews. Titanic American Pie This movie will forever be a classic. About a group of high-school seniors who make pack to lose their virginity by prom night. Blade A half human, half-vampire, who has all of the vampiric gifts but none of the side effects. He fights vampires hoping to rid the earth of their kind forever. Alien Aliens Alien 3 Alien: Resurrected A futuristic fictional world where humans battle incredibly realistic aliens.A sci-fi classic with amazing special effects. The Game A middle-aged billionaire is given a strange gift from his younger and more adventurous brother. A psychological thriller about how this gift unravels. Great Expectations Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade Predator Pay It Forward A young boy starts a wave of good deeds after creating a school project whereby he does good deeds for three people and asks for nothing in return except that they do the same for three more people and so on and so on. The Shawshank Redemption Monster's Ball A prison guard who drives his own son to suicide and then through strange circumstances ends up becoming lovers with the ex-wife of a man he has recently executed. A Clockwork Orange Vanilla Sky A handsome millionaire messes with the wrong girl and ends up becoming horribly disfigured in a car accident. His loneliness drives him to look at his life in a new light. Eyes Wide Shut A young doctor, considers infedelity, when he discovers his wife has been dreaming about another man. A twisted and creepy tale, that weaves through a dark and surprising underworld. Gandhi This movie always amazes me. Especially, at how much of a good, good person Ghandhiji was. It's a great film, amazing shots of India during it's time as a British Colony. Well written and well-acted. Fargo Snatch The Stand Stephen King's story about the apocalypse. When a dangerous virus is released into the general population, the majority of humans die, save for a handful of chosen few. They either head to Las Vegas to meet with the devil himself or are drawn to Boulder, CO, by a strange old woman in their dreams. Life As A House Edward Scissorhands There's Something About Mary Say It Isn't So Sid and Nancy Dances With Wolves Shrek Forrest Gump O Brother, Where Art Thou? Based on Homer's Odyssey, this film tells of three prison escapees and their search for a hidden stash of money. Amazingly developed characters, well-acted and incredible cinematrography, using modern digital techniques to alter colours. The Bourne Identity The Princess Bride Ferris Bueller's Day Off The Usual Suspects U Turn Return To Paradise The Beach Goodfellas Memento Cast Away Shrek Waking Life A young boy and his never-ending lucid dream has philosophical conversations with fictional characters while asleep. Adaptation This is a movie about a scriptwriter, writing a script about a scriptwriter, writing a script about a scriptwriter writing a script about orchids and the loss and discovery he experiences along the way. Based on Susan Orlean's book "The Orchid Thief." Nicholas Cage in his best performance ever. Bowling For Columbine A documentary on American gun control, focused on the shootings at Columbine High School. A fresh examination of the issues, questioning why are Americans so violent? FUBAR A mockumentary about a filmmaker following the lives of two Saskatchewan drinking buddies. About A Boy Kurt and Courtney Nick Broomfeld's documentary about Kurt Cobain's suicide and the bizarre circumstances surounding it. The Lord of the Rings The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Bend it Like Beckham A young Indian girl, from a srictly Indian family, takes up soccer secretly against her parent's wishes. She crosses the cultural divide by falling in love with an English man. A great film, which shows very well the cultural differences and hardships between Indian and English societies. No Man's Land A soldier accidentally triggers a land mine in no man's land during the Bosnian war. If he moves, he will die. Both sides refuse to help as he is in no man's land. While spending his days in a trench he meets a number of interesting characters. Panic Room Punch Drunk Love An lonely man calls a telephone sex line searching for comfort and understanding. The girl on the other end attempts to extort him as he struggles to get his life back together. Magnolia Philadelphia El Mariachi The story of a lone mariachi who gets himself involved with the wrong people. Shot for a bare bones budget, this film is truly a confirmation of "less is more." Desperado Once Upon A Time In Mexico Training Day A young cop and his first day as a Drug Enforcement Detective. His mentor, carries him through a wild and corrupt world in South Central LA. So good that I actually had to pause the movie and pace around my living room halfway in before coninuing...Denzel Washington will blow your mind! It'l scare the shit out of you!
