A gorgeous, old medieval town within the walls of an ancient Roman palace. It's the largest city on the Adriatic Coast with a large marina, crystal clear blue waters and surrounded by forested coastal mountains.

The most famous of Craotia's 1185 islands, it receives so much sun that if it rains, you're hotel is half price and if it snows, it's free. Pebbled and rocky beaches meet clear blue water around a gothic old town plaza. And yes, Tom Cruise and Bill Gates have both vacationed here.

Mljet, near Dubrovnik on the mainland, is a large green, densely forested island. There is a national park on the northern tip. It was far less touristy than the other islands, just a quiet beach, some old Roman ruins and a few restaurants.

Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, was nothing dazzling. Parks and cafes, a few niceold churches, rows of stately buildings, oh yeah, and the 2nd worst hostel on earth, the Omladinski.
